About Me
Me working away in the print room!
Hello! I’m Julia, a third-year Illustration Animation BA Hons student at Kingston School of Art. My artistic practice is deeply inspired by my love for printmaking, particularly metal etching techniques like softground and aquatint, alongside traditional rug hooking.Although I was born in Canada and spent my early years in the U.S, I grew up in Devon, where the natural landscapes have had a lasting impact on my work. The rugged coastlines, rolling hills, and diverse wildlife are a constant source of inspiration. Much of my work centres around the natural world, with a particular focus on animals, which I feel a strong connection to. I enjoy experimenting with different techniques to capture the essence of these creatures and their environments—whether through the precision of printmaking or the tactile process of rug hooking.
These natural influences and my connection to the land are central to my practice. I aim to create art that reflects the beauty of the world around us, while inviting others to appreciate the materials and processes behind each creation.
Through my work, I hope to offer a moment of reflection and connection, rooted in the landscape that has always been my home.
